Strength training makes you live longer!
Okay there’s no scientific proof that strength training will make you live longer BUT hear me out
Strength training isn’t all about flexing in the gym mirrors.
It’s not all about wearing a vest and showing off to the other gym goers about how much you can lift… it’s so much more than that.
Being strong:
Allows you to take on daily tasks more easily. Getting up and down stairs, getting the shopping in from the car, picking up your kids to name a few.
It helps with injury prevention. A strong and sturdy frame is less likely to suffer trauma through impact such as falling over or tripping up the stairs. It will still hurt, but the likelihood of something serious happening is a lot lower.
Aches and pains disappear. Crunchy knees from walking a lot at work? Painful shoulders from sitting at a desk all day? Building up the strength in the joints you use ever day will help alleviate those issues
And yes, eventually, you are eventually able to lift more which isn’t ever a bad thing.
I’d probably go as far as saying 80-90% of the issues, that I’ve personally come across in my career as a trainer AND a sports massage therapist, have been solved through a careful and progressive strength program.
That’s not to say it will work for everyone but I’m yet to come across someone that when exposed to the correct program in a safe and controlled manner, hasn’t progressed.
If you’ve got any questions, queries or comments, please feel free to get in touch and I’d be more than happy to talk everything strength training with you
