Diet control, grabbing the easy option and not being too hard on yourself

ree

No matter how hard you’re going to try, sometimes the long nights, the fatigue and the lack of energy will just simply get the better of you.

If you have ever worked with me, either online or in person you’ll know my stance on nutrition already. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of my company for an extended period of time, I try to simplify nutrition as much as I can, to keep it as easy as possible.

I have always and will always hold the mantra of ‘nutrition is the hardest part of fitness’. I know it’s going to ruffle a few feathers but hear me out.

You’re training 60 - 90 mins 5 or 6 times a week, with a solid rest day at least once a week. That’s a very strong week, no one can argue, solid.

However

Baring in mind there is 168 hours in a week, this equates to 18.6% of your time. Take off your time for sleep, 8 hours a day, 7 days a week you’re up to 65 hours. That’s about 40% of the week, roughly, give or take.

In your waking hours, all 103 of them, you’ve got to equate for everything you put into your body, via your nutrition. Fluid, food, supplements, they all have nutritional value and need accounting for.

Starting to see what I’m getting at?

There’s a lot of food in a week and it’s not always going to be the purest and freshest nutritionally.

Basically

Just don’t be too hard on yourself, new parent or no new parent, whatever stage in your life you’re at, no one is going to be a saint 100% of the time… unless it’s your career that is and even then, I’d wager they aren’t giving you the full story if they say they are!

Take me for example, it is my career, I am meant to be physically and nutritionally healthy but I’m telling you now, I’m not on it 100% of the time.

And that’s coming from someone who lives and breathes the gym!

If you can aim to be good 5 days out of 7, without going ridiculously over the top on the days where you’re being a bit more relaxed, you’re setting yourself up for success.

If you go completely and utterly nuts on your one or two days off per week, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Have some time off by all means but don’t go overboard.

Just some simple ideas and some honesty from your favourite new dad
